South Africa’s Northern Cape province is the country’s renewable energy home with arguably over fifty percent (50%) of the country’s projects. The bulk of them are Solar related.
Magnificently and majestically; this is a province known for its blazing sunlight, its mighty Vaal and Orange Rivers and winds that cast fresh air into its majestic open blue skies.
Solar Parks: Stretch from Prieska, De Aar, Droogfontein near Kimberley, Postmasburg, Kathu and elsewhere.
Wind Energy: The wind turbines are etched to the landscape of the Namaqua region’s towns such as the surrounds of De Aar, Loriesfontein and at Pofadder’s Khobab farm.
Hydro Energy: The currents of the waters of the Orange River have propelled the province into pole position as a leader of hydroelectric power amid the unveiling of the Neusberg Plant outside scenic Kakamas.
The Northern Cape is South Africa’s most sparsely populated province. Despite its anticipated mining boom owing to increased mining activity in recent years, renewable energy is the new gem that has sparked continuing widespread global admiration that South Africa now enjoys.
Renewable energy projects have already amassed over R200 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) and it is all thanks to the Northern Cape’s and other provinces lynchpin role in setting us on a path towards achieving a sustained energy mix.
